The OpenTable hardware and software system replaces pen-and-paper at the host stand. It automates the process of taking reservations and managing tables, while allowing restaurants to build robust diner databases for superior guest recognition and targeted e-mail marketing.
For diners, concierges and administrative professionals, the website provides a fast, efficient way to find available tables that meet desired criteria for cuisine, price and location at a specified time. Reservations are free and can be made around the clock. The website is directly connected to the thousands of computerised reservation systems at OpenTable restaurants. Search results reflect actual, "real-time" availability and reservations are immediately recorded in the same electronic reservation book used by the maitre'd.
So How does it work??
The table is booking is made via the OpenTable solution. When the guests arrive and are seated the table is transferred from OpenTable to the Comtrex System.
From here the guest is handled in the normal way through the POS.
When each stage of the guest’s meal is ordered on the POS a message is sent to the corresponding table on the OpenTable system which will flag a different colour indicating at what stage the guests are at. Table colours will flag when starts are ordered, mains, desserts, when a bill is presented and finally when a check is closed.
This enables staff to have complete visibility over each stage of the customers dining experience but more importantly is a live field to the on-line audience.
It also enhances the customer database on OpenTable as the guest check spend is also forwarded to the reporting module on the OpenTable solution.
