Poynt FAQs
A. Pin on glass is the method of capturing a cardholder’s PIN number on the Poynt device. When the card is inserted into the device and the payment is presented, the customer inputs their PIN number by pressing the corresponding numbers displayed on the screen rather than the traditional method of pressing physical buttons.
A. Dynamic Currency Conversion is a process whereby the amount of a card transaction is converted by the payment device to the currency of the country where the card was issued. This process is completed in real time on the screen of the device and on the Poynt terminal the currency is displayed with the flag of the country of origin. The conversion rate is displayed on the screen. The customer can choose whether to pay in the currency where the terminal is located or in their native currency.
A. Yes, as the Poynt terminal is powered by Elavon’s acquiring platform it will accept Visa, MasterCard, Amex, Diners, JCB, Applepay, Samsung Pay and Google Pay.
A. Yes, the solution allows you to take MOTO (mail order telephone order) payments. You can key in the card PAN number onto the device to take the payment.
A. Elavon has the ability to allow merchants to batch the terminal manually or have this completed automatically. The batch time can be adjusted to suit the merchant’s needs. Should you wish to have you funds settle next day you can take advantage of Faster Payments, subject to terms and conditions.
A. Yes, Elavon offers all customers access to an online portal to view transaction details and more. Please ask your Elavon rep for more details.
A. Please call Comtrex in the first instance to assess the issue. Should Comtrex be unable to resolve the issue then they will transfer you to the Elavon technical helpdesk to arrange a replacement device. Standard replacement timescales are next working day.
A. Yes, the Comtrex POS is fully integrated with the Poynt smart terminal meaning that you can split the bill on the screen of the device.
A. Yes, the solution is capable of accepting tips as a percentage as well as bespoke tip amounts. These can be set on your portal and amended at any time. You can offer a selection of tip amounts on the screen to enable customer choice should you wish.
A. A MID is a Merchant ID which is issued by the acquirer when you set up an account. The MID allows you to authorise payments and have them settle into your bank account. Elavon can set this up with you and can take as little as 2 days depending on acceptance criteria.
A. Yes, as the Comtrex POS is fully integrated with the Poynt terminal you are able to print the table bill from the device. You will require to have the Poynt smart terminal and the Advanced Cradle.
A. Poynt Smart terminal has the Comtrex POS displaying on the screen which means you can take the customer’s order directly on the device. Coupled with the Elavon acquiring you can also use the same device to take the payment as well.
